Denzak Recreational Design & Supply recognizes that there is a difference between designing an accessible playground that meets ADA guidelines and creating a truly inclusive play area for children of all abilities. Therefore, when we approach a design, we like to utilize ramps (if budgets allow) that will encourage those children with gross motor issues to access all of the decks on the structure and be in the middle of the action side by side with peers. This will encourage and enable all of the children to interact with each other. However, inclusion does not begin and end with ramps. In order to be truly inclusive, there has to be a variety of play components, with a good mix of physical, sensory, and social activities. It is also imperative to provide various challenge levels so that children of all ages remain stimulated by the play environment. Without enough challenge, children may seek to misuse or abuse the play equipment in an effort to make it more interesting and may create a play hazard for themselves and others in the process. Having raised a child with special needs, we understand and have experienced firsthand many of the physical and sensory challenges faced by these children and their families. Therefore, we strive to do our best to design playgrounds with the goal of levelling out the playing field so that children of ALL abilities can play happily and successfully among their peers. We feel that it is our mission to follow not only the letter of the law, but the spirit of it as well. We would love the opportunity to work with you!
